Library DIY: For Faculty Members: ILL

Borrowing from other libraries

This page is devoted to explaining the ways that you can get access to library materials - books, articles, media, and more - when Westminster does not have them.  We have several services to help you with this.

  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL).  You may already be familiar with this from your time as a student or at another institution.  Please read on below for details about exactly how to use this service and what to expect from it here at Westminster.
  • Get It Now.  This is a new service, specifically for the delivery of journal articles.  Please find instructions and tips on Get It Now to the right, and a few key notes below.
    • Get It Now is not available for all journal titles (see a list of what is available to the right).
    • Get It Now requests can be made 24/7, with an average delivery time under one hour.

Q: How do I get access to material that the Library does not have?

When using ILL, please keep in mind the time frame- printed, physical material typically takes 1-2 weeks to come in and they will be held behind the desk. Due dates are typically set by the lending library, and late fees can add up quickly, so let us know if you’ll need more time.

Articles and electronic materials usually take 3-5 business days and they are delivered electronically, sign back into your ILL account to view/download the pdf. Article PDFs are available for 30 days, so please be sure to download and save it.

If we don't have it, but another library does, we can usually get it through ILL for you (depending on copyright/their policies)!

Get It Now

Please see the attached instructions for how to use Get It Now and a list of available titles.  If you have any questions, requests, or difficulties, please contact John Garrison.
